SUDAN

جمهورية السودان (Ǧumhūrīyâẗu s-Sūdān) (Republic of the Sudan)

In service

Sikakh al-Jawwiya as-Sudaniya (The Sudanese Air Force) since 2003

Deliveries

2003-2004: 10 MiG-29SE (9-13) and 2 MiG-29UB (9-51) from Russia
In total 12 MiGs between 2003 and 2004

Sudan has used MiGs in the civil war in the western province of Darfour. It is rumoured that some MiGs were lost between 2007 and 2010 in clashes with rebels or South Sudan, for example: in May 2008 Darfour rebels shot down a MiG-29 during fighting that occurred in Omdurman and a Russian pilot was killed.

In November 2008 Sudanese Defense Minister Abdul Rahim Mohammed Hussein confirm in public that MiGs were purchased from Russia, dementing accusations that were delivered from Belarus in 2008 with violation of UN embargo.

In November 2011 MiG-29UB (#145) delivered from Ukraine (one of many stored in Vasilkov airbase, after overhaul in Lviv).

In 2014 two MiG-29UB (#604 and #606) were overhauled in Ukraine (Lviv State Air Repair Plant).

Camuflage and painting

MiG-29 #623, Sudan 2004. All Sudanese aircraft have the same camouflage with slightly different shapes. Drawing accuracy: almost OK.

MiGs-29UB #604 and #606, Sudan 2014.
Three trainers overhauled in Lviv (Ukraine) (#145 in 2011, #604 and #606 in 2014) have the same colours (brighter than Russian planes from 2004) and in general similar camouflage.
Drawing accuracy: OK, but only one side of each aircraft.
