Iraqi Air Defences and Air Forces between 1987 and 2003
All informations are unconfirmed, unverified, maybe completely wrong. I rely on Iraqi Armed Forces Forums (iraqmilitary.org)
1987-1988: 32 MiG-29 (9-12B) and 4 MiG-29UB (9-51) from Soviet Union
1989: MiG-29 lost during testing of Iraqi installation of air-refueling (?)
January 1991 First Gulf War:
Iraqis claimed MiG's air victories in 17-19 January 1991:
In 1991 four aircraft flown to Iran. After many years of storage were incorporated to Iranian Air Force.
In March 1991 British/American team from the Foreign Technology Division of the USAF and the Joint Captured Materiel Exploitation Center recover the nose section of a damaged MiG in Jalibah air base. There's a rumours that in 1991 American forces captured another intact MiG-29 in Talil airbase.
During Second Gulf War in 2003 11 MiG-29 and 1 MiG-29UB were completely inactive. Some were destroyed on the ground, some hiding by Iraqis in sand around air bases, digging after war. Some remains in state of a debris in Taqaddum air base (on photos I've count four with readable numbers and 6 with unreadable).
Iraqi Air Force don't have MiGs after war.
6th squadron @ Al Habbaniyah / Al Taqaddum
