Product 9-53 it's a double-seater training version of MiG-29SMT 9-18, 9-19 and 9-19R, also MiG-29UPG 9-20 called upgraded (or modernized) UB. Often is called simply MiG-29UB. Aircraft for India and Russia sometimes are distinguished by suffixes I for Indian and R for Russian. I dont't have no idea if that are official designations.
9-53 MiG-29UB it's a upgrade of serial 9-51 to SMT standard. Has the same weapons as MiG-29SMT, avionics and cockpit, but no radar and no possibility to use a radar homing weapons. Don't have dorsal fuel tanks, have in-flight refuelling probe. Are produced by Sokol in Nizhniy Novgorod.
